Default More Space

I have a Sony NW-E407 and it says it will hold around 695 songs. Around 4 minutes each song. Mine will only hold 277 songs. Each one roughly around 3 minutes. Is there a way I can compress the songs so I can fit more on?

Default compress your mp3...

285 songs should be the max you can fit into 1gig. (1gig / average 3.5 Mb files = 285) Unless you compress your files to lower bitrates (=lower size).

Do a google search for free mp3 compressors. I'd post couple links but forum won't let me. If you reduce your mp3 bitrate(quality will decrease as well; anything below 96 kilobits per second sounds pretty bad), you'll fit more songs.

Click on advanced search options and check free programs only. Good luck.

What are your mp3 encoding settings that you're using right now? Sony's Atrac format should give you good audio quality at a reasonable compression. If you're using over 128 kbps, then you'll get less than what Sony advertises.

Do you have the atrac or atracplus sonicstage software?
