gigabeat F40 freezes

recently i was updating my gigabeat f40 and i couldnt find my 9V a/c wall adapter thingy so when i turned it on it did the little loading thing and said gigabeat cant update system error. then shut back off and when i turn it on it has a loading bar that fills up half way and stops then flashes black and goes back to loading bar and freezes up. is it gone for good or what? it doesnt shut off w/ the power button after it stops loading unless i shut off the battery. help please.
