Is this process safe and recommended to do it when turning on the e280 for the first time?

and IS IT WORTH IT?

You don't even need to do this when there is nothing wrong with the player when you turn it on for the first time

Hiiiii muffinzrock.... ehem.... well....

first of all this reply ain't no "question" it's just a recomendation on your tread:

1.- thanks a lot men for all your help with this "guide" to all of us I bet it has been a salvation metod for our players

2.- you should take that "This solution has worked with pretty much all sansa problems" part OUT and change it to "This solution will work with ALL sansa problems" cause I like to make a few additions
(you'll see what I mean in the next points)

3.- Doing a few researches and commenting in different forums (also on rockbox) I had an epifany ("revelation" is the common term)....
no one... non a single person, in my knowlodge, has accomplished to downgrade from firmware 1.03.01HBETA

4.-Did you remember trying to un-brick your sansa and have to go all the way this instructions just to restart your sansa and see that horrible dog from the firmware above AGAIN? (that dives me totally mad)
WELL HERE IS THE FINAL SOLUTION FOR ALL PROBLEMS:
when transfering those mi4 and rom files to the 16mb thing (in recovery mode I mean) just... and simply..
CHANGE THEIR NAMES...
this are the names you should give to the files:
PP5022.mi4 --> firmware.mi4
BL_SD_boardSupportSD --> pribootLoader.rom

(Those are the exact names DO NOT mistake when writing them, and don't ask, I found them here http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?...10766.msg82440 )LOL
also when putting this, the player, will actually display:
writing new firmware
upgrading now
upgrade done
restarting

(or something like that LOL)

5.- this have been all my points and thanks to all of you for reading and just consider the next:

(I consider my self as the person who has had every possible problem with sansa)and(my english is not very good, i'm just improving it, please be nice)

also if you found any kind of "unneccesary" or al-ready posted information please let me know and delete the reply

THKS alot muffin

Renex, in point 4, the "PP5022.mi4" and "BL_SD_boardSupportSD.rom" is your Sansa has 1.01.XX or 1.02.XX. They change to "firmware.mi4" and "pribootload.rom" in 1.03.XX Beta.

I've followed the steps in your Ultimate Fix, however, when I try to run

Run this to downgrade the firmware (NON-R PLAYERS ONLY):
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/D...fw01.00.12.exe

I get a message that says "ERROR! Application failed to read the version details"

When I unplug my e260 and turn it in it says "load main image failed. switch to recovery mode"

Either way, nothing is working (obviously)

Please Help!

Unhappy Help! Stuck!

My SansaE260(american) went nuts today so I was following your directions and everything seemed to be going fine until I got to this part...

That link doesn't work! What should I do now? Please help.

Update: I went to the sansa site and used their official firmware-updater-thingy and now my player seems to be working. But I don't know anything about the technical stuff, so will my player be OK?

Thanks,
TechnoDummy (and my name is selfdescriptive, so please try to use the least technical terms possible).

Sorry about that- it should work now. I had to take it down for a while because my bandwidth was draining.

I've moved the firmware to a different server so I shouldn't have bandwidth problems anymore. Try the new link, the old ones won't work anymore.
Hope that fixes your problem!

I tried to put the e200 in recovery mode, but nothing happened on the screen. I got caught in a rain storm a few days ago (e200 in silicone case) and tried to protect as much as I could... it kept working for a while 15 min. maybe. Then it went dead. I shook it out and left to dry suspended over the dryer. Now all that happens is the flywheel will light up but nothing on screen, no sound, and as I said, will not go into recovery mode. Help! I listen to my sansa EVERY day! Thanks!

Vallow, sounds like manufacturing mode. you need to use the e200tool in Linux. Hopefully that will work.

Here is a thread that talks about how: http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ad.php?t=22253

Wow! OK, is there a "pre-beginner's guide? So far, cannot get anything to work... but realized I forgot to mention this is an e200R. Does that make a difference? Could not get ubuntu to load on any of the 3 computers in this house... not that I understand what to do after that. I just want my player back... it's just not the same trying to run to the music in my head. Does anyone have a something simple or at least simplified that I can try? Or should I just try to deal with the sandisk people? thank you in advance!

E200 and e200R are the same basically. Are your computers too new for Ubuntu to work or is there not enough RAM? The e200tool is the only way to fix your Sansa if it in manufacturing mode. There is a Windows one, but it is buggy and works the best on Windows XP but still buggy. If it is out of warranty, SanDisk might not help.

Hi vallow, I had to go to manufacturing mode recently and I followed the guide HERE. It was pretty easy to follow as long as you do as is written. As far as Ubuntu not working on your computer... did you just copy the iso to a CD? or did you "burn an image" of the file to the CD? You have to "burn an image". Also, set up your computer to boot from a CD. That's about as newbie as I can make it. Good luck.

"if you cannot downgrade the firmware with the .exe file, download and extract the correct firmware from this link:
http://zefie.com/files/PMP/sansa/e200/firmware/1.00.12/"

Link doesnt work, can someone rehost it please ?
