try it again- you may have to do this up to three times for it to work

Also make sure that you used the right firmware. If you have a Rhapsody player, make sure you use the Rhapsody firmware! If not, use the appropriate 'standard' firmware.

O.K. Muffin Man...
I downloaded the new firmware last night, la de dah...and it all seemed fine.
Then I tried to put some new music for my bicycle tour in Oregon next week, and hit some problems...
Not related to the Sansa, I had to install a new hard drive, and then installed XP Pro, which came with Media Player 9. Before I had been using 11, I think.
Anyway, it took this nitwit a while to configure it to recognize the Sansa and transfer music. It seemed it did,...it was doing its thing and the Sansa was saying it was receiving and writing...but...when I disconnected it, and tried searching for the new music...not there.
Huh?
Then tonight, I get on the bike, and start up the player, put it on random, put on the hold key, and away I go for two blocks, and no sound. I pull it out of my
anorak pocket, and there is the bright blue ring, and a dead screen. Nothing.
No response if I change the hold button or not.
I follow your procedure, and fiddle, and finally the blue circle goes off. Then I start it up and all my music is back, not the new music, and it seems to be working fine. What is up???
Also, should I download your program at the beginning of this thread???
Thanks for all you and the other guys effort...

hmm... sounds like you were in MSC mode when you synced with WMP. that happened to me when i synced in MSC mode. switch to MTP mode for syncing. use MSC to drag-and-drop non-protected songs.

WMP 9 (and its accompanying MTP drivers) doesn't really work right. You need to upgrade to 10 or higher.

The player crashing was a random and probably unrelated event. It happens sometimes; not much you can do about it but power cycle the player, but it's usually fine after that.

just wondering, what kind of problems does it fix ?
I'm having some problems with my Sansa but I'm not sure if that would really help...

it fixes:
constant freezing/crashes
bricked players
bugs (such as the custom eq bug)
...stuff like that

BTW, what problems are you having?

I keep on getting this message:
"Synchronize to continue your music subscription"

I'm subscribed with Napster and the music that I synched came up with that message, the music I synched from CD's work fine...I also get a message that says I need to reformat my player to sync from Napster and I've already done that, sometimes it says it doesn't even recognize the player

Default .rom

I'm about to do your steps with my mp3 player because it's having the same problems. I understand the .m14 file that you download, but where is the .rom file? (when downloading the firmware into the 16 mb thing). If you could let me know ASAP so I can listen to music again that would be great!

Smile I figured it out.

The rhapsody mp3 players don't have the .rom in the firmware. Thanks for your steps because now my mp3 player works! (YAY!!) I have another question. When I turn on my sansa rhapsody it brings up a notice that says "Your subscription tracks have expired. Connect to your PC to renew." I don't like having this pop up every time I turn it on.

im guessing you have the 4 GB player? i have the 2GB player, so this might not be completely accurate- if you have the 4GB you should have about 3.4-3.6GB free after format. this is normal- the other 0.6-0.4GB are used for system functions, and other stuff you prolly dont care about

Cool Thanks!

Thanks for finding that! I really hope it works!! I'm going to wait for my mp3's battery to get low before I plug it in again, but I'll let you know if it works. I have another question for you. Do you know how to delete rhapsody channels off of my player? This would be helpful to know since it's one of the steps in removing the annoying popup. I have an okay idea of how to do it but I want to be 100% positive that I know what I'm doing!!

Question Another question!

I figured out that annoying popup thing thanks to the website that you posted...Thanks! I now have another problem. I formatted my mp3 player and I thought that would get rid of the corrupted files that may have been on it, but I was listening to music again and my mp3 player froze/restarted itself. How do I know which songs are corrupted that are on my player since I have about 180 songs. Would reformatting again help or would the same problem just keep happening???? I just want my mp3 player to work like when I first got it!!!

the songs prolly arent corrupt. i suggest running checkdisk (right-click your player in MSC mode, click properties, tools, then "error checking" and run that) and if that doesnt work, try formatting again.
