It's an AM/FM radio,...my father had the same one. It was pretty state of the art back then.

Excellent. Now to fish meself a vintage bakelite pocket transistor radio that accepts a now-standard battery. I've came across countless vintage bakelite pocket transistor radios before. Just no way to power them. And those models accepting C- and D-cells are more like "hand-held" devices.

I wasn't making fun of it, my dad had something similar but bigger and with 5 bands IIRC. I don't recall the brand but if I run across it, I'll take a pic to post.

Y'know, every time I see something like this that's still in working condition, I cry a little.

I'm sorry for your loss my friend. My father passed in 2004,...seems like yesterday.
Ok, sorry for the derailment,...back on topic.

The new ones are the German Maestro GMP 8.35 D - they're the company that make the housings (and maybe the drivers too?) for the Canadian DBI phones. They do sound quite a bit different than the PRO-700. Some useful reviews on Amazon, for once: http://www.amazon.com/German-Maestro.../dp/B002LVUKFQ
Btw, this video is worth a watch, regarding the build quality of the German Maestro/MB Quart/DBI housing. ![]()

I believe that German Maestro also builds the housing and driver of the Charter Oak SP-1. Perhaps they are now trying to gain some momentum under their own brand.

Right, the SP1 look just like the GMP 450.
Here's the slightly confusing history of the German Maestro brand, for those interested: http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki//index....PMB_/_MB_Quart - by the way, they also made the drivers for the fetching Jecklin Floats.

@DFKT: are these the 35ohm or 300ohm model? And when you say they sound different, do you mean different or GOOD different!!!
Just askin',...

Seriously give it another listen, did he say "you can even use with a portable device because of the low impotence"
On a more serious note, the fact that they can handle all the abuse is impressive.

any word on sound quality on those indestructible headphones? From my experience (mostly with earbuds) you can get either good SQ or good durability.
