This is really strange. I have never seen a device so picky about video format (same goes for the v1). Are you sure that the video transcoded properly on your computer? Have you tried playing it on your computer?

I tried it again with another file. Same Result. The movies play well on the computer but aren't recognized by the Sansa.

OK, can you try this:

Code:
mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128 -af resample=44100:0:0 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=320:vhq=2:bvhq=1:chroma_opt:quant_type=mpeg -vf scale=224:176,harddup -ofps 20 -ffourcc DX50 -o <output_file.avi> <input_file>

Same for me. The posted mencoder codes seemed not to create a fitting video stream. I played a bit with mencoder, too but no efforts... media converter 2 does not run in wine for me. Strange that the player is so picky about the codec

Hi, a user in the offical Sansa Forum gave some specs for the videos. I tried a bit using mencoder but I had no success, even if the attributes of the two videos were the same. I used the following code
Code:
 mencoder -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=623 -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=128 -ffourcc DX50 -vf scale=224:176 -ofps 20 -srate 44100 /home/mcflow/dwhelper/zunePhone_ad.flv -o "/home/mcflow/dwhelper/zunePhone_ad.avi"
I wonder what's going wrong. Does the Sansa Converter possibly set some information to the video header? I'm lost :/

Well it sets ID_CLIP_INFO_VALUE0 to InterVideo. I wonder if it checks that during playback. Unfortunately I don't have a v2 to do more extensive testing.

Ok. let us try again. Can some one test if this works on the v2?

Code:
mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128 -af resample=44100:0:0 -ovc lavc -ffourcc DX50 -vf scale=224:176,harddup -ofps 20 -o <out_file> <in_file>
If it does, I will refine the settings.

Hi, Thanks for not giving up here. I tested it too, but it does not work. My player tells me that I should use the Sansa Media Converter to convert this file. I made some thoughts about this... At least I am using mencoder from the repos of Ubuntu. Possibly the codecs are too old to create the right file. I will try the svn of mencoder. Possibly that works... Edit: I'm just too lazy to compile mencoder on my own. I just took the updated Codecs from their website... Still does not work. I don't think that a new version of mencoder will change this.

The only difference is that the original is

ID_VIDEO_WIDTH=224
ID_VIDEO_HEIGHT=176

and the mencoder generated one is

ID_VIDEO_WIDTH=224
ID_VIDEO_HEIGHT=168

The height is wrong.

Rather than -zoom -xy 224 use scale (I'm going from memory here)

-vf scale=224:176,rotate=0

Well wide screen is shorter too. If you do this the aspect ratio of the video will be off.

Have you try the version from "WINE cvs" repository from BuildServices?

No - I have WINE 0.9.44. The build service has .9.6xx but won't let me install. Too many dependency requirements.

Grrr....

What happens when you try to upgrade? I have no problems installing WINE cvs from build service (Too lazy to compile it since I don't really use Windows programs). Also what errors do you get if you start the Media Converter with WINE from a concole?

The v1 videos are MJPEG in a MOV container. I would say you might want to look at Rockbox if you have a v1. Rockbox videos are a lot easier and better to work with.

If you look up the PluginMPEGPlayer wiki on the Rockbox site, it has the info that you will need.
