I got my t9 yesterday. Seems to be a very nice mp3 player. After very slow file transfer I decided to download a firmware upgrade. First tried the the version 1.6. I had no clue what to do as everything was in Korean.
I then tried the version 1.27 from the Samsung website. I extracted the files and followed the instructions from the website as follows: How to upgrade Firmware (MTP) - Before upgrade process, please check your battery status. - Connect the player to your computer. - Copy the 'SYSDATA.bin' and 'MUON.rom' files into the 'DATA' directory of the YP-T9. (If you use Windows Media Player 11, copy those files into the root directory of the YP-T9) - Select Safely Remove Hardware and remove the YP-T9 from the USB port of the computer - When you turn the player on, firmware updates are automatically performed during booting. - To confirm an update, Select MENU -> SETTING -> SYSTEM INFO from the menu to view the firmware version. Here is the problem: I do not have a "DATA" directory. Is it possible I deleted it? The following folders are found on my unit: Video, Text, System, Recorded, Playlists, Pictures, Music I seem to recall when I initially plugged in my unit it did have a folder named DATA. Please advise. |

the data directory is basically the t-9 memory itself, so when you see the screen with the folders video, text, playlists etc. you are already in the data directory, it's not a folder, just the player. hope this helps

Yeah, sorry about the re-occurrence for those who have already seen it, but this information can be useful to someone who hasn't updated firmware on the T9 before.
The FAQ + resources thread is there to answer questions and supply information about the T9 which may not be known by all T9 owners. If you think something else should be added/changed in the FAQ please post it below yuki's post.

Sorry if my first post here is a tech assistance request, but i'm pretty much desperate:
The problem is still the "Device stopped responding or has been disconnected" problem soem people have already rised throughout the board. I've tried every solution suggested but as of now, i still can't copy any data (nothing, not even music files) to the T9 using Windows Explorer because that error comes up. I can create folders fine, just not transfer files. So i can't upgrade the firmware either. The Samsung software works, i already copied some videos and music fine, BUT that crappy software wont let me transfer non-media files, even if i rename them i cannot rename them back nce on the player. I also can sync music files no problem using WMP11! i have WMP11, the T9 is recognized fine, plays fine... What can i do? Please help!

Are you trying to drag and drop the firmware files into the internal storage?

Which firmware update are you trying to complete and where exactly did you copy the files to?

Trying to get my T9B to link with my cell phone. Which firmware do I need the UMS or the MTP? What's the difference?

MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and UMS (USB Mass Storage-device Class) are different protocols through which a computer and external device use to associate with each other.
Each firmware offers the same features for the T9, so bluetooth functions are available on both versions. There are many different aspects that can be looked at when comparing the two protocols. Very briefly, if you have DRM-protected music then you must use MTP and if you use an operating system other than WinXP/Vista then UMS is the most convenient. Otherwise both should suit you fairly well.
