Default e280 not reading ID3 tags

Hi, I got myself an e280, installed the latest official firmware (*18), and copied some MP3s to the player. Unfortunately, the Sansa doesn't seem to be able to read any of my ID3 tags after rebooting.

I've searched this forum for a solution, but couldn't find an answer. I'm a (K)Ubuntu Feisty user and usually tag my files with both ID3V1 and ID3V2.4 tags (using Kid3 and/or Musicbrainz Picard).

My best guess is that the e280 somehow does not understand UTF-8 encoded tags (or has problems with some less popular tags like TPUB or so). Can anyone confirm this? The solution would be to re-tag all my files before copying them onto the player, and this would really be a pain in the a...

Any other options/ideas?
