Help Problem with accented characters in Linux

Hi, I am having issues with accented characters on my e250. I am ripping cds to mp3 with Grip in Ubuntu Feisty. I have tried to set Grip to use UTF-8 or ISO_8859_1 for id3 tags but I cannot get the accented french characters to display properly on the Sansa. "" would be shown as "@", etc.

Did anybody have the same problem? Any solution? Does anybody know what encoding the e200 supports or uses natively?

Thanks for the help,

CP
