Any Laserdisc fans?

Finally found a decent Laserdisc player to replace my old Yamaha and am running a hot test with the worst copy of Days Of Thunder. (It's like they letterboxed a 4x3 copy just so they could have black bars).

A big LCD is not kind to what I remembered as stellar resolution back in the day. I also forgot that most of them are just stereo.

Can't wait to check out the stuff that's been sitting on the shelf for awhile.

Hmm,...you remind me of someone I know in NYC. He used to work @a store called "Laserland",...he said they were the way of the future & DVD's would never be accepted.

Hey, I'm not claiming technical superiority in any way shape or form over anything over vhs.

I just have a lot of weird titles from back in the (vhs) days that were never rereleased on anything better.

Just wondering if anyone else is in the wax cylinder club too.

It is probably the best analog video format but has some major issues compared to modern systems. Major 2 issues are the size of the disc leaving the possibility to damage of the disc / dust specs / cracking and no error correction to read around such issue. The other issues are capacity of disc and player reliability. Not all players used a diode laser and so forth, they are very complex devices, and they have to spin a heavy ass disc so the mechanical issues will very well catch up soon on even new old stock players.

Have to admit, never had the auto flip before . And one up for the LD is no region coding.
