The problem for UK peeps is that the official cable retails here for £15 (about 25 US dollars).
Anyway, anyone have an opinion on whether this one is likely to work?: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/..._ya_oh_product I have ordered it anyway so will let you know. |

I have a Samsung Instinct, and if the cable you bought is typical for Samsung Phones then it won't work with the Cowon. My cable will fit, but doesn't charge or allow syncing my S9.

Ah, so the connector usefully enough is not proprietary, but the cable itself is. With the consequence that you can't tell just by looking whether a cable will work or not. How silly.
Oh well maybe I will have more luck with this one for some reason. |

So, has anyone come to the conclusion yet? Can the S9 use the korean/samsung 20-pin TV-out cable ???

Here in the Netherlands they sell a Cowon S9 USB cable for 8.99 euro.(=12.6USD)
Don't know if they'll ship out of the country.. http://www.mp3spelers.nl/index/product?id=544 (you can change the language at the right top)

still bad news
I had a samsung U600. I still saved its data cable cause I heard that korean are going to be standardizing their usb connection. Any way. This cable, though looks exactly the same, does not fit in. it looks slightly bigger. So all those samsung phones using the similar cable are off the list. People gotta look for something else now. I am hoping that u600 used proprietry cable. |

i recently bought one of these from ebay because it looked like it might be suitable.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mini-Black-20-...item2eabb6252c it was worth a punt for a few pounds but unfortunatly i can confirm that they are NOT suitable Although they look similar there are some vey specific differrences, the Samsung connector is about .5mm smaller across it's width and about .25 mm less in it's thickness (very approximate values as I don't have calipers to measure it ). Also the angles on the edges of the connector are pitched slightly differently The biggest difference however is this connector has 20 high density pins on one side only. The opposite side is just the metal shroud. Whereas the S9 connector has two opposing rows of 10 pins each which are also staggered offset from each other. Once you know this difference it easy to tell them apart by sight even though the outer casings are physically very similar. Hope this helps someone in their search for this elusive cable. I don't like having to carry my full cable around and having been unable to find a small substitute I reckon i'm going to end up buying a second "official" cable cut it very short and solder on a micro USB socket to make an adapter i can use it with my retractable USB lead or any standard USB charger. I have a Samsung Convoy which has a cable that looks the same as the Cowon, and I inadvertently plugged the Cowon cable into the Samsung...would not connect to the computer or charge, cable got hot, and oops....then I noticed that it was not the Samsung Cable.....
Then, plugging in the Cowon cable to the S9...no charging or communication..... So $15 later I will be getting a new cable from Jetaudio that should work.... The Cowon has pins top and bottom, and the Samsung with the same shell has contacts only on the bottom..... |

Sorry to revive the thread but thought it may be better to carry on this one rather than start a new one, I can't see any other good threads on cables. Reading through this topic it looks like it's not that standard a cable as the J3 review makes out, has anyone found a good UK supply for them? I've checked the Pixum link above but with postage it comes just short of a tenner or on eBay there's someone in HK selling them for around a fiver.
It's so annoying they couldn't use a standard cable for data/charging (HTC phones support the standard USB cables as well as supporting video out and similar) as I've plenty of mini-USB/micro-USB cables but don't like having just one USB cable for the J3. Thanks, John |

I have coordination problems and after two years, I still curse that connector. Sometimes I spend up to frustrating 10 min. trying to plug the cable in.
On a slightly different topic, I plan to buy an Anker 10000mah external battery for my smartphone with its plethora of connectors. Does anyone know if one of connectors would fit the S9? It also has three outputs, 5V, 9V and12V @ 2AMP I assume I would have to use the 5V one or I will fry the player. Another digression, I brought an AC for the S9. I assume it charges fast, but will this shorten my battery life due to the higher throughput? Thanks. |
