Unhappy podcasts don't show in walkman..

so finally I found a media manager (Media Monkey) that I can use to subscribe to podcasts (unlike Windows Media Player) and auto synch with my sony walkman.

Everything's fine untill I disconnect the player..
MM automatically downloads and says is uploading them onto the walkman, but when I disconnect it and go podcasts, it says:

"No podcast available for playback. Please connect to compliant software or device and transfer podcasts."

OS: Win 7
Device: Sony Walkman NWZ-E355

Please Help!

Thanks

funny I just found out that the podcasts are in fact transferred to the walkman, but they don't show under the podcast section. I'd have to track them down by looking up the name of the podcast broadcaster under artist in the music section!!

how odd is that?? so Sony just doesn't get the podcast right! eh?

It's probably due to the tags of the podcasts not being correct. You're probably better off just not doing the auto-sync.

For my Sony A867, the answer was this.....create a folder in the podcast section, call it "Podcasts"...and then send the podcasts to that folder.

Sony Media Go - it might be required to get the podcasts to show up correctly on the Walkman.

People say Sonys can't handle podcast because they haven't set them up to handle podcasts. If you haven't configured MM to place your podcast where you want them it's not surprising they wind up in strange places.

Go to Tools>Options>Portable/Audio Devices, click on the Walkman, configure it to create a folder structure in the Podcast folder. Make sure your folder structure is no more that two levels deep.

Your Podcasts should play from there reliably.

Thanks for the help guys! ) It did work after creating a subfolder in the Podcasts folder and modifying the destination folder in the configuration of MM.

only thing is, now it dumps all the podcasts into \Podcasts\podcasts..n the filenames are just the title of the podcasts..kinda difficult to go through..

I also tried the following as the "synch Podcast files to":
\Podcasts\<Podcasts>\<Podcast>\<Artist> <Date> <Title>
hoping that every podcast broadcaster would have its own subfolder, which didn't work..nothing was copied to the podcasts folder whatsoever

also tried:
\Podcasts\<Podcasts>\<Podcast> <Artist> <Date> <Title>
thinking that at least the podcast file name would have the broadcaster in it, but again same result..

now it's working with:
\Podcasts\<Podcasts>\<Artist> <Date> <Title>

but all the podcasts dumped in the same subdfolder

any ideas?

Thanks again in advance

Try Sony's Media Go application, it usually solves the issue without having to go crazy trying to jump through hoops. It's worked for me in the past with my Sony S639.

Are you using the default Sony media player? I thought it didn't support podcasts?

The OP doesn't have a Z-series Walkman (so technically this thread is misplaced), so there is only the default media player available. But they state that it does have a podcast section, so technically they are supported.

I've had no problem with loading on my player (an NWZ-E465) using MediaMonkey 4 (MM4) and having them appear in the Podcasts Section of my player with each podcast in its own folder. I have set them up to load in the following location (I use the same for Video Podcasts):

\PODCASTS\<Podcast>\<Title>

The above creates a separate folder for each podcast in the PODCASTS folder, and then loads each podcast in the appropriate folder with the file name the same as the podcast's name.

Looking above, something to consider is using <Podcast> rather than <Podcasts>. <Podcast> will use the information stored in the Podcast tag in the ID3 tag, while it seems that <Podcasts> will create a folder named Podcasts.

Something else that they introduced with MM4 is a file type. My experience has been that for a podcast to be treated as a podcast by MM4, the type must be set as Podcast. It can also be set as: Music, Classical Music, Audiobook, Music Video, TV, Video Podcast, and Video.

I hope this helps.

Many Sony players also don't support mp3 files less than 32kbps. There are some podcasts at 16kbps, 20kbps, or 24 kbps.

What I've done to deal with this issue is to have MediaMonkey (MM) automatically increase the bitrate of any podcast that is below 32kpbs when it loads it on my player. It doesn't modify the podcast stored on my computer.

Another issue I've had is with podcasts with a sampling rate not suppoted by my player (32kHz, 44.1kHz, or 48kHz). In that case, what I've done is use MM to upconvert the bitrate of the podcast stored on my computer and it automatically sets the sampling rate to one compatible with my Walkman.

Yep, media Go was awesome! thanks!!
you know what's funny? two Sony reps didn't even mention Media Go. The first one connected to my computer remotely to get "Media Manager for WALKMANŽ Software Version 1.2" to recognize my walkman only to give up after an hour or so. She then passed me the number of the 2nd level support ..after 15 mins of holding the line, he came back to say Media Manager doesn't work under 64bit windows! I wanted to say are you serious? Are you expecting me to roll back my OS only to get your shitty software recognize my walkman lol?
I asked him is there any other software out there that you'd recommend? and he had nothing to say for podcasts!
then when you recommended Media Go and it worked like a charm, I was thinking no wonder Sony had to lay off 10k people 2 months ago..even their current employees don't have a clue about the software the company has developed.. lol

anyway thanks a lot again you were a life saver!

Thanks a lot MM worked beautifully with that little tweak!

Thanks again guys! I was so close to tossing my walkman and buying something else..maybe even an ipod (as much as I hate itunes) but you guys saved me !! )
