Default Google unveils a 10-inch Nexus tablet, updates the Nexus 7

Google was originally scheduled to hold an Android event in New York City at the exact same time as Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 launch in San Francisco, but it ended up being canceled due to Hurricane Sandy. This, however, did not stop Google from showing off its new devices online: a refreshed Nexus 7 model and an all-new 10-inch Nexus tablet running a new version of Android.

The Nexus 7 is thinner than its predecessor, and you can now get it in the 16GB and 32GB variety for $199 or $249, respectively. Google is also offering a 32GB model with 4G HSPA+ for $299 on more than 200 carriers, including AT&T and T-Mobile. The updated Nexus 7 is available now.

The real highlight, however, is the 10.055-inch Nexus 10, which sports a 2560 x 1600 pixel screen with 300 pixels per inch. The device also comes with front-facing stereo speakers, nine hours of battery life, and multiple account support – betraying its Windows 8 envy – thanks to Android 4.2. The 16GB and 32GB WiFi-only Nexus 10 will be available on November 13 for $399 and $499, respectively.

With this announcement, Google now has a Nexus-branded tablet to compete with the iPad, while Apple has a 7-inch iPad Mini to compete with the Nexus 7. Are you planning on picking up one of Google’s new Nexus tablets, or are you happy with your brand new Surface?
