Default horrible noise while playing/charging in car

Bought a new Sansa Fuze 8gb model and the Griffin charging kit. The player is very nice and I'm quite taken with it. Audio input into the car is via a dedicated AUX/in jack. When I play it off the battery, the sound is crystal clear. If I connect the Griffin Dupower car charger, I get horrendous electrical squealing and squawking, very bad noise.

I've seen a few other forum posts on the net abouse noise, especially from bad audio jack connectors, but this is all due to the power.

So far I've swapped the audio cable thinking I needed better shielding but that did nothing. Is this a known issue with Fuzes and chargers? Should I return the unit? Curious as to the solution.
