Default bizarre starting problem with my creative Muvo v100

guys,I have a rare 1 GB creative muvo v100 which has now been discontinued by creative.I bought this player in 2007 from a local takes a single AAA.So after buying the player I bought 2 Camelion AAA NiCd batteries from a local store....everything was fine and gradually the backup of the batteries decided to get a fresh pair.
this time I decided to get the new NiMh but the the problem started...the player wont start on the new NiMh naturally the thought came that maybe the player will only work with NiCd.
It was difficult to get them in 2013 but somehow got them online(same capacity 300MAh as old batteries)
but the player wont even start on them....the player only starts on the the batteries I bought in 2007 and obviously alkalines but it wont start on any of the newer batteries.
So now I have no clue why this is happening...I dont want to throw away my player..I love it...and I cant afford to put alkalines for general daily use.
Anybody has any ideas as to why is this happening....?
any help will be appreciated....
