Default Help! All mp3 players, and my laptop, play music too quiet for big speakers!

.... yet my friends' iphones, ipods, and lenovo laptops play the music really well on the exact same big external speakers.

By big speakers I mean a large amplifier, with big heavy dials on it, and surround sound speakers built into the walls.

Am using 3.5mm jack to link music source to amplifier/speakers.

Music is in mp3 format. In my headphones it is all at good volume, more than loud enough.

When I turn the volume all the way up on my Sony mp3 player it starts skipping when it's plugged into the large speakers. Same thing happened with my sansa clip. It's as though it doesn't have enough power or something...? As for the laptop, that should have plenty of power yet there is very quiet sound even with everything at max volume.

Can anyone please help? I just want to play stuff from my mp3 player on big speakers. Thanks!
