Thumbs up Sansa e270 and linux

So, I had a bit of an ordeal the other day when buying a new mp3 player. I had owned a Sandisk SDMX 512mb player for a good two to three years now, and for the last six months or so I had been having to do a bit of a rain dance with it to get the audio to come out of both speakers. I finally decided to go buy a new player.

My first choice was the economically pleasing Archos GMINI XS100. At $99, a 4gb player was a steal of a deal. I briefly wondered why so many players were still sitting on the shelf, but made my purchase anyway.

Of course, I quickly learned the reason why. Not 20 minutes after I opened the package, the hard drive on my player failed, trying desperately to read for about ten minutes while ticking like a bomb. After that time passed, it asked me if I wanted to format and it did the same thing.

So I returned it, and decided to spoil myself a bit more and broke down to buy a Sandisk Sansa e270. I must say I am more than pleased with my purchase. After all, my other Sandisk player lasted me a good while, and the construction of the SDMX is crap compared to the e200 series.

I've been browsing these forums over the last couple of days, and I have to say the idea of customizing my fancy new toy is quite pleasing to the eye. However, I was wondering if anyone knew of a program available to linux users for flashing these different kinds of players. Or, do I even really need to run the flashing program to flash the player? I read something in a thread about loading some files onto the player and it would flash automatically. It's a long shot, and it's not as though I can't get my hands on a windows box to install things, but I already tried running the installer for the media converter under Wine and Cedega and it wasn't having it.
