Default Writing/Connected mode control with Ubuntu?

I am using Ubuntu 6.10 with my sansa e200 and noticed I am unable to write to the device after I remove/add anything to the device.
For example, after connecting I add a folder and the screen will then change from 'Connected' to 'Writing'. After the transfer is complete the screen will still show 'Writing' and any attempts to write to the device will come back with the following type of errors:
Quote:
"/media/usbd...ve/test.txt" cannot be deleted because it is on a read-only disk.
Quote:
Error "I/O error" while deleting "/media/usb...one/..~5m".
To fix the problem I have to ubplug the device, let it refresh, plug it back in and perform the next task.

Any ideas on what is causing this and how to create a permanent solution?
