Default Tivo shows to my ZVM is EASY!!

I just had to mention here how easy it is to put shows from my tivo onto my ZVM. They look AWESOME too. First use Tivo Desktop to get them on your PC, then run them through the "Direct Show Dump" utility found here: http://prish.com/etivo/tbr.htm then run the resulting mpg through iriverter http://iriverter.sourceforge.net. Iriverter is the most amazing, small, powerful, simple app I have seen in a LONG time. It just...works. And it is SO fast! On my PC, 2ghz 1gb mem, Iriverter converts at about 2x playing speed. So an our long tv show converts in like 30min. I use Iriverter to convert DVD's too...perfectly. This app is absolutely amazing. I just had to let others know how awesome it works.

i've been wondering how to do this! i'm a complete noob at this, so i have a bunch of questions. where do i get tivo desktop? and can you give me a direct download link to directshow dump? i went to the link you provided but there were many things for download in the "download" section and after i have direct dhow dump and tivo desktop, what exactly do i do with them?

EDIT: okay NVM, i got tivo desktop. now i need help with direct show dump.

EDIT 2: okay, i just found out that i don't actually have tivo, but a direct tv copy of it, simply called direct DVR. is there anyway i can use my direct DVR unit and get things from it on my ZVM?

Once you have Tivo desktop setup with your tivo, just pick programs to download to your PC. Install Direct Show Dump (this one) Run Direct Show Dump, choose an output directly (where the converted file will go) and click "add files...", browse to your newly downloaded .tivo file and it will convert it to a plain .mpg. Now open Iriverter. Choose ZVM in Options, device. In bitrate under options, I have mine set to 872 kbps video and 128kbps audio. Now, click the 2nd button from the left, labeled "single video" and browse to the new .mpg file. Click the first button on the left and you'll have a properly formatted .avi file in no time! Here's another guide with pics. have fun!

thanks jon waitneight! i just found out that i was being stupid and DO actually have tivo, but i cant get my computer to display the recorded things i have from the tivo unit on the computer screen. my tivo software is under 7.x, so that might be why. but i have another queston. my tivo is connected with a phone cable so i can get updates and messages and whatnot on my tivo unit, and my desktop computer is on the other side of the house, connected to a dsl modem using an ethernet cable. is this all i will need? or am i missing something?

http://www.tivo.com/4.9.4.1-1.asp Requirements: "A TiVo® Series2™ DVR connected to your home network. The TiVoToGo™ feature is not currently available on Series3. This feature will not be available on the DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo or the original TiVo boxes (TiVo® Series1). "

What is the benefit of running shows through iriverter? Won't ZVM automatically adjust the resolution to the proper format. I recall seeing option for "stretch to screen" or "fit to screen" or something like that. Why go thorugh the extra step of iriverter?

Thanks for clarifying.
