With zero hacks it recognized my zune. The software also recognized the old files on the player and the files I had in the standard video and photo libraries. After a background update of some sort it said the TOS had changed but continued to work to sync the zune.

I was able to backup the files I wanted to the PC. I added more files of each type to the zune 30. No problems with file recognition or playing them and the playlists I created.

None of this is enough to make me want to unretire the player. The same as when I retired the DAP I also won't use zune software for anything more than syncing the zune 30.

The best way to put it is that the zune hasn't advanced (and can't!) but I have.
