I fixed it! Booted up with a Linux Mint boot disc, went to the terminal window and typed in 'sudo apt-get install mtp-tools' and lo and behold my X9 loaded up. I reinstalled the firmware just in case, and ejected the Cowon properly and it has been fine ever since. I hope this helps anybody else who has a similar problem
