The Zune Marketplace will be retired as early as November 22 according to Microsoft.

Wonder when or if they'll pull the plug the ZMP desktop software itself?

Or have they already done that and I missed it?

Sorry if that offends any Zune fans but from my point of view the whole Zune project was doomed to fail from the beginning. TBH I'm not certain it was ever meant to be anything else other than extended user financed, market research. From that point of view I think it was fairly successful.

The low end Windows phones I've handled are pretty sweet. Not the best built at the lower end but nicely featured. Without the cell phone radio they're what the Zune HD would be if it had made any financial sense to continue the line.
