Not quite sure what you mean by subscription downloads. I think it might be what some services are calling something like offline mode. You stream when you're online but if you buy their premium service you can save files or playlists to listen when there's no connection.

If that's what you mean it's possible one of the services like Spotify or Sony is what you want. A google search for "music services with offline mode" should bring results to let you research what each requires. I've noticed that software and hardware requirements can vary quite a bit.

The good part is that they tend to have free subscriptions periods available. I haven't felt the need for one so I haven't tried any to give any first hand experience.
