Is there room for yet another 7" Android tablet at that price point, even if it's a bit lower than a Nexus 7?

The specs on it aren't cutting edge but is probably more than decent for browsing the web and playing most games (some of the tegra zone or new EA games might take a while to load). Jellybean should be smooth on a dual core 1.6 ghz cortex A9 processor. It's also, by the looks of it, running stock Android 4.2 which I think is smart than putting a half but effort in a custom UX.

The physical device itself looks nice. I can easily see this device going below $150 on sale at a local box store and HP has the resources to have decent marketing for their tablets and to get display space in stores right beside the Nexus and Galaxy tablets. Wouldn't be surprised to see this thing do well.

It would be neat if HP lunch a tablet that can dual boot Android and webOS. They spent a lot of money on webOS anyway. Might as well include it as an extra feature for their new Android tablets. They might make some extra sales from teck enthusiast who want to play with a sub $150 toy if they did so.

Interesting device. At the price point I'd say its not a bad deal if you don't do many games.

Interesting. I'm sure HP stock holders are thrilled that they were able to somewhat make up for there loses. At least WebOS will live on in some form.

The resolution is really not that horrible. You hold tablets further away from your face than you do with phones and the dpi is still considerably higher than most computer monitors. If people accept Apple selling a tablet (ipad mini) for $300 plus with a similar resolution surly HP should be able to get away with selling a tablet under $170 at that resolution. I'm more concern with the LCD display overall quality (decent brightness, colours, etc.).

I guess. But for 30 bucks more the Nexus 7 has a screen resolution of 1280 x 800.

The HP does have expandable memory though, so there's that.

The screen on a tablet is the most expansive component (about 40% to 60% of the coast to build the device). If a company is trying to make a profit and to undercut the nexus 7 they would pretty much have to downgrade the screen. Just downgrading the internal memory and processor would be pointless. Again though, I bet in a few months we're going to see this tablet go on sale below $150. At less we all can be thankful it's not another 800 x 480 Chinese nock off tablet .
