Google Play adds Google+ accounts, reviews now more personal
If you’ve visited the Google Play Store to leave an app review lately, you probably noticed the service’s latest announcement. Effective immediately, all reviews left on Google Play will use the name and photo from your Google+ account. All previous reviews will now be attributed to “A Google User.”
This is nothing new - YouTube recently started doing this as well - but I have to wonder how many people will be comfortable with this change. The Windows Store does something similar, but it drops your last name and doesn’t actually link to your profile. YouTube and Google Play, however, do. I’m not too worried about it, since my Google+ profile mostly goes unused, but I would probably feel differently if I actually used it more.
What do you think about Google’s decision? On the one hand, linking it to your profile and removing anonymity will hopefully decrease the number of rude and inappropriate people online. On the other hand, is Google sharing too much?
