ALMOST FORGOT...Thanks for the comments about flac vs mp3.

I will be buying a NAS shortly for use with a SONOS player. When I start ripping my cds, they will be flac. For my dap however, unless I have downloaded it in flac, I'll stick with mp3. I listen generally in fairly noisy environments and for relatively short periods of time. I find, at least with my old Creative Zen Touch that the sound quality is adequate for this purpose. Plus, I will get a lot more music on my player.

Thank You for the awesome review, I was a brief owner of the clip+ returned it when it kept freezing on me, has anyone (I haven't read any posts after page 5) had this problem with the clip zip? the 4Gb model is $40 up here in Canada, and I am hoping to get one for a friends' mother whose stuck in the hospital... judging from the review this might be the right player for her... even though it is on the small side.

I don't recall any freezing problems with the original Clip or Clip+. I did have problems with my Zip when I first got it, but after updating the firmware, don't recall any since.

Are the stock headphones oversized and painful to wear as the ones from the original Clip were?

They appear to be the same ones so whatever your experience with the others was I wouldn't expect anything to change. I can't say from personal experience as I refuse to disrespect my ears by putting the stock buds in them.
