im looking for recommendations for the best Bluetooth audio receiver to wirelessly connect my speakers, would prefer something small but sound quality is paramount

Try this.
I have two of creative's APT-X speakers (the S2 and D5) and can vouch for their superior audio quality compared to non apt-x bluetooth speakers. Just be sure the transmitter is ALSO APT-X otherwise you won't capture that specific codec. If you end up buying it (or whatever you choose) be sure to let me know how you go.
