The Sony E828 earbuds has plenty of bass, however it also has audible distortion at higher volumes. At lower to middle volumes distortion isn't audible, and the earphones are quite usable. The bass and treble are boosted while the midrange is a bit recessed. The E828 is very efficient at 108db/mw 16 ohms. For under $10 this earphone is quite decent, although it lacks the detail of good more expensive earphones like the Sennheiser MX580. Another good choice for open earbuds under $10 is the JVC HA-EB75 earbuds with earhooks. The HA-EB75 imo has a better midrange but not as much bass as the E828. The HA-EB75 won't fall out of your ears though while very active. If you are willing to consider an IEM(in the ear isolating earphone) the JVC HA-FX40 or Panasonic RP-HJE355 at around $15-20 sound so much better than the E828. The HA-FX40 has even more detail than the HJE355, however the HA-FX40 has too much treble. IEMs aren't suitable though when you need to hear your surroundings.
