Amazon confirmed there's no way to remove the ads which means in other words the bootloader will be locked.
Also, if you'll be able to install a custom ROM someday, you'll lose all content advantages over the Nexus 7 (especially Prime videos) which is the Kindle's main selling point after all.

As media consumption device, the Fire HD is a win - but as Android tablet, it's a fail.

It appears that Amazon quickly (and very responsively!) has reacted and caved on this point: at least officially, I read this morning, you can pay $15 not to have the ads appear.

Personally, the ads seems minimal, only appearing on the lock screen, and I think that many people will find them of interest, if targeted correctly (as Amazon propaganda tends to be). I think that most people really won't care--and that's what Amazon says its experience with the ads on the Kindle has been.

Umm, you have an early Fire HD there that you've been using to check out?

I guess you haven't seen the videos yet? It's a sluggish beast,...and my bro's kindle fire is a slug. So, I can say I've seen more than enough,...'eh?!?!?!

No expansion slot on the Fire HD....compared to microsd slot on the Tab 7.0 Plus= fail for Fire HD.

iPad, software totally optimized for the hardware.....slick user experience. Fire, heavily skinned and diluted Android experience.

I wouldn't choose a Fire HD over either of those two other tablets, myself....

Nope. For me, the jury's out 'til the device is. (Although I still wish for a SD/microSD slot--criminal not to have it, for ALL devices nowadays.)

I have to say, I REALLY like the $50/year minimal cellular data allowance program--I think that this really feeds into realities of use, and wish others would adopt it.
