Default Problem with creative EP-630s one bud is louder.

Hey guys, I recently purchased the Creative EP-630s online, and have been impressed with them thus far. Last night I started listening but i noticed immediately that the left earbud was noticeably quieter, and it made it sound like well... Suck.

And the the left earbud is putting out less then half of what the right earbud is. Any fixes an average joe not so wiring savvy can do or are they toast?

It's probably the driver, and not the wire. Give a (very light) tug on the cable by the jack and the earbud, and if the sound doesn't change, it's probably not a loose cable and the driver. =[ I'd return for another pair..

Nothing changed pulling the wire. =/ And I think the warranty is up. If that's the case, I'm getting some Soundmagics or The Cx-300s.

Oh man sorry to hear about that. About the two phones you're looking at, I've heard they're both very good. Happy shopping/hunting/reading/reviewing.

Have you made sure it's not your ear that's damaged?

Yup. My Kramer'd marshmallows sound just fine. I'll be using them for the time being.

Exactly what I'm using They do sound pretty good.

I've heard great things about both the CX-300 and SoundMagic. I guess it comes down to how much bass you like. CX-300 = Bass and SoundMagic is a lot more tame when it comes to the low end. Good or bad, that's for you to decide.

Ya. I think I'll look at some different options. I kinda jumped on the 630s. Perheps the V-moda vibes..

I'd say that its full of ear wax. If you can then pull the piece off that has the grill in it and run some hot water through it, that should fix it up.

Send it in through warranty. Vibes i don't think are that great imo, but Soundmagic has more meatt/texture in music than any other earphones like cx300, but it's your choice

So pop out the metal grill, and run it under hot water. Excellent point! I'll practice on some crappy head phones first.

Yep, I've had to do it on a few pairs of my little sisters CX300's. Although the latest pair I can't manage to get the metal grill off.

Ouch, that sucks. Though, before I try this, what do i use to remove the metal grill? And do I just pop it back in?

I think most of them are attached to the plastic that you clip your flange onto, so you have to remove that too. Then just take the whole piece and run water through the grill. I'm not sure about the EP-630's though because I don't have any of them.

Edit: from looking at pictures it looks to be the same with the Ep-630's you have to pull that silver ring off, then the driver should come off, and you should be able to get the plastic and the metal grill off the driver, although with some CX300's I haven't been able to do that part, thus I haven't fixed them.

Hmm... After fooling around with the grill a bit, I've found that it appears to be glued on, rather then wedged under ridges on the tip like all my others. I read a thread about Dismantling the EP-630s on Head-fi http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/how-do-i-open-up-creative-ep-630-a-184576/index2.html
and it says that you should try to take it apart by wedging something under the little metal ring around it. I'll try that.

Once you get it off then just use tap water thats hot, and if you have one of those little sprayer things that some sinks have then those work really well.

Ya, I'm still working on it, don't want to completely kill it trying to fix it.

Thanks for you're help.

By the way, would it help if i just took off the metal grill completely, and just replace it with foam?

It might, I've never done something like that though. Might change the sound of the headphones too. You could try it if you want.

Ya, if I can't open the head phones up, I may try that, I'm having difficulty getting it open.
