I want to buy a head unit with flac playback capability for my car
So I can just stick a flashdisk or MMC with flacs in it, to hear them in my car But as far as I can see, all head unit which are available only have WMA/MP3/AAC support It's really tiresome to convert my flacs to mp3s, just to listen them in my car, not to mention that I always have to re-tag the results, since the conversion process always mess up the tags Is there really exist a Head Unit with flac support ? preferably the cheap one A no-name chinese brand will do, as long as it can play flac Thanks |

I checked the flac site, they list PhatBox and URAL ConceRt CDD. I've never heard of either and don't have a use but you can see them on the flac hardware section here. Alternatively you could look for a head unit that 3.5mm in and use a portable player like a cowon or a rockboxed DAP.
Edit: Just looked and the PhatBox has been discontinued and the URAL ConcerRt CDD is from Russia, think if I were interested I'd go the latter route.

That's too bad, phatbox is discontinued, while URAL ConcerRt CDD is from russia, which I would never find in my country
Sigh, that means the only way to play flac is through my dap I wish there are car docks for my fuze or clip plus, so I can play flac in my car while charging While my itouch 4, are primaly used for gaming, the space is already full with games, I really dont wanna use it to play music in my car Thanks anyway ^^ |

Another idea would be to make a carputer like the VoomPC-2.

I wonder if Rockbox could be run on this Android-based head unit? That would be a neat solution.

Don't know if it's really true or not (I heard some rumors that one of the pioneers would support it, but it ended up not being true from the specs on pioneer's site), but:
http://mobile.jvc.com/product.jsp?mo...hId=147&page=2 JVC KW-NT800HDT
They're officially supporting up to 32gb cards now, but they don't mention file limits (5000 on both the ones I have). Looks like all their navigation units support FLAC: KW-NT700 KW-NT500HDT KW-NT300 as well

The 2012 JVC Navigation lineup
KW-NT300 (6.1" with microSD) KW-NT500 (6.1" with SD, HD Radio/Traffic) KW-NT700 (7" with microSD) KW-NT800 (7" with SD, HD Radio/Traffic) All support FLAC on USB and microSD/SD Card. Also, the file limit is unlimited. Another note is that the USB port is hub compatible and can switch between 4 different supported devices (can support more than one of each type). |

I was looking for someone who had a unit in their hands and have actually tested functionality, or at least a national retailer who carries them, so I can find one properly installed on a soundboard (hey we all can dream), so that I could test those on my own.
The file limit and USB hub capability seems especially intriguing, as long as the navigation of music is better than the previous 3 years' models. A multi-TB drive updated semi-frequently would seem to be the way to go.

I think these units haven't be released yet, at least based on Curtchfields site. So stay tuned. FLAC support would put these at the top of my list on future unit. Thanks for the link!
