Default Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE up for preorder on Sprint, ICS rolling out to the DROID 4

Motorola Mobility might be downsizing a bit, but that doesn’t meant the company isn’t rolling out new devices and updating existing ones. The Motorola PHOTON Q 4G LTE is headed to Sprint on August 19, and those interested in picking up the device can preorder it now for $199.99 with a two-year contract and receive it up to two days ahead of the release date.

The PHOTON Q 4G LTE, as you might have guessed, includes support for Sprint’s 4G LTE network. Some of the other specs, however, aren’t quite as obvious at first glance. The device has a 4.3-inch ClearBoost display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a QWERTY keyboard, an 8MP rear-facing camera and an HD front-facing camera, NFC, mirror mode via HDMI, a SMARTACTIONS app to help extend battery life and automate tasks, and Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” (ICS).

Speaking of ICS, Verizon has begun rolling out the Android OS update to the Motorola DROID 4. It’s being delivered “in phases,” so if you haven’t received an update prompt yet you shouldn’t have to wait much longer. The update, v6.16.217.XT894.Verizon.en.US, also adds GSM global roaming, bringing the list of supported networks up to three: GSM, CDMA, and LTE.

Now that the DROID 4 has ICS, we can commence wondering when Android 4.1 “Jelly Bean” will arrive. The same goes for the PHOTON Q 4G LTE. Do you think these devices will ever get updated to the latest version of Android?
