jeez, isn't this quite the pickle jar.
ok- you've uninstalled the drivers for "USB Mass Storage Device" I'll assume. I'll also assume you've tried the suggestions per link to the Microsoft website (PC off, remove power source, clear the memory, replug, retry) Since the thing doesn't have drivers now, when your computer detects a connection, it should automatically try to install the drivers. The USB cable has power-specific and data-specific pins, so this is automated. Like, even if the device is faulty, if the plug and pins are right, then it'll detect and attempt to install. Since this isn't happening, it's one of three things- 1) wrong USB laptop port (some are underpowered/slow [ie USB 2.0 v. USB 3.0]), 2) bad cord (after trying your other USB ports, try a different cord), or 3) faulty/damaged device (ie SGP) USB port (I'm ruling this out, though, since it previously detected a connection). Try plugging in the device to different ports in the laptop and see which connects (ie that little grey port icon in the system tray on the right with the moving, circular arrows appears a bit after connection). If that doesn't work, try a different cord and repeat above instructions. Assuming that the PC detects a connection, double click that icon and see it's progress. Remember- on your device, before you plug in, it should have A) USB Debugging off and B) be in "mass storage mode" (both mentioned in the previous post) If the drivers fail to install, remove the device from the PC, put into "Samsung Kies mode, load up Kies, and click the troubleshooting option. Follow the instructions ( ***A) make sure Kies is fully up-to-date w/r/t upgrades. I've been assuming this, though perhaps erroneously since you just installed the program...). It'll tell you to first unplug the device. I plugged it back in after that initial screen passed. Again, make sure Kies is up-to-date. There should be a "check for updates" option somewhere in the Kies software. After all is said and done, assuming you have the device detected, check the "Manage" option on your "My Computer", go into "Device Storage", right click, check "Properties", and check the "Device Status" centerwise. If the "device isn't working properly", look for an option allowing you to repair it. Click it. PS I'm assuming that the PC from which you're working is a Win 7 computer. |

I followed the directions on the Microsoft site (PC off, remove power source, clear the memory, replug, retry). Now, my computer (Windows 7) won't even detect the player at all. I've tried other ports, but nothing works. It's as if the player isn't even connected to the computer. My phone was detected just fine. My phone worked with the SGP charger, but the player doesn't.
I connected my player to another computer (Windows XP), and it started charging. That's it, though. I'm starting to think there's something wrong with the player itself. I guess I'll have contact Samsung and maybe send it in to them for repairs. |

Sorry to hear that this is causing you so much trouble.
While you're waiting for Samsung's response, I'd like to suggest a few more hail mary plays to attempt to resuscitate your connection. 1) Update Kies. The initial release was purported by many Galaxy S2 users to have faulty drivers (ie device wouldn't connect; Devices with Android 2.3.4 and above are reported, in the link below, to have failing drivers). This is where I started to fix my device. Since XP and Win 7 are slightly different (though I'm not sure if it's significant), check out this thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-gal...ct-kies-3.html. The guy also had a solution to his XP problem. It seems similar to your problem. 2) Download USB drivers 2.0 Final release following the link from http://www.usbman.com/WinME%20USB%20Guide.htm (XP-specific) (The link above also apparently has a link to the drivers) === 3) Check if "Selective Suspend" is enabled. Apparently, according to Microsoft, if it's enabled, sometimes USB devices aren't recognized. (It idles/forces hibernation on seldom used devices) If you try this, follow the instructions exactly- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314634. Good luck and sorry I couldn't be of more help. |
