Long story short: I accidently went swimming with my Cowon J3.
Now it looks like it's pretty much filled with water. There's some air bubbles behind the screen and that's it. Has anybody else had experience with J3 + water. What result did it yield and what did you do? I'm considering laying it outside in the shadow (Where it's 35 C / 95 F right now). But I'm afraid that it'll end up harming the hardware, thoughts on that? If I'm not doing that, then I'm gonna just wait for the water to evaporate and then I'll turn it on to see if it still works (will post results). Also, there's an additional micro SDHC card in it, if that's off any relevance. |

Just don't turn it on until it's fully dry (could take a few days). Some have even suggested putting it in a bag of rice.

I’ve put my devices that have fallen into water into a jar with rice in the car for a week or till dry. Chances are if it got really wet the battery is dead and needs to be replaced but as long as you haven’t turned on the device and fried any boards it should work fine with a new battery.

Alright thanks, that's what I was thinking too, but it's always a relief to here it from others. I have had success with phones that has had this treatment too.
Just one thing then (if no one has comments about putting the PMP out in scorching heat): Where do I get another battery? (it's not against the rules to have a website recommended is it?) I live in Denmark (Scandinavia (Northern Europe)), and you can't even get a Cowon J3 with 32 gb of internal memory here anymore. |

You can find batteries that might fit on ebay too, as long as the voltage is the same and if will physically fit inside the J3 then it will work.

You might want to take off the back plate (if possible, I don't know the anatomy of the J3) and put it in a bag of rice for at least half a week so it can soak up the water deep in the parts/board.
I left my Samsung YP-P3 under an open attic window by accident, and of course a thunderstorm brewed by. It was about 3 weeks until it worked again, but the battery only lasted 30-60 minutes after that. I ended up replacing it with the Cowon X7 which was the best thing I think I've ever done. But yes, if you were to get a new battery, it theoretically should still function if you give it sufficient time to dry.

Hmmm. I already looked at it, and I don't see how I could take the back plate off without tools. Also, as weird as it may sound, I won't have access to a bag of rice before early next week. But I will certainly follow your advice as soon as I can.

Oats will work as well.

How 'bout grits?
Although it'd be a shame to waste good grits.

Okay thank you everyone. But it looks like it sustained permanent damage. The screen is flickering, and not responding at all, and when I take disconnect it from the recharger, it just shuts off in a blink. It also says "battery full" whenever I try to recharge it. So it looks like a whole bunch of stuff is out of order, including the battery.

The screen is responding now. It still flickers, it shifts between normal background light and very low. The speakers sounds fine, and it sounds great through my headphones. So that's a positive. I've mailed the repair center (thanks Angelopsaro).

For some reason, I can't contact them through their mail. I keep getting a "delivery failed" message.
