Default Tango updated with free text messaging

Tango, the popular multi-platform video chatting app, has released a new update, adding support for sending free text messages. The latest version of the app also moves video messages and Tango Surprises from the premium column to the free column. With this latest release, Tango is attempting to transition from a video chat service to an all-encompassing communications app.

According to Tango’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and co-founder, Eric Setton, Tango has more than 55 million registered users, 40% of which have used the app in the last 30 days. Tango’s main draw is how many platforms it runs on, from mobile operating systems like Windows Phone, Android, and iOS to desktop operating systems like Windows. As of this writing, the update which adds text messaging is only available on Android and iOS. Windows Phone, however, is sure to follow in the near future.

Do you find Tango useful? Or do you prefer other video chat alternatives like Skype?
