Barnes & Noble’s next NOOK tablet will utilize “revolutionary screen technology,” according to one of CNET’s reliable sources. This device is expected to be made available in a 7-inch form factor, complete with a never-before-seen display technology.

Most interesting is the fact that this technology was reportedly “developed in-house by Barnes & Noble (with the help of ‘another company’).” Based on previous announcements, we wouldn’t be surprised if the mysterious “other company” is none other than Microsoft, which recently invested $300 million into NewCo, Barnes & Noble’s NOOK and education division. Even if it isn't developed in conjunction with Microsoft, it still has the potential to significantly enhance the ebook experience while allowing for long battery life, full color, and low eye strain. Who knows, it just might be enough to help it compete with devices like the Neuxus 7, Kindle Fire, and iPad.

The only question is: is it “resolutionary?”

It was a slow news day for CNET. I've seen too many vaporware announcements of tech revolutions, usually made by the so-called revolutionaries.
