1) Won't connect to PC via USB. Absolutley nothing happens.
2) Plugging in Batter Charger syas 'Battery Chargin' for about 5 minutes then screen goes blank 3) Obviously won't start - not anything on screen So, it's either totally gone or could it be a a completely dead battery? Should I take a 20 dollar chance and buy a battery replacement? Has any one had this experience? (Pushed reset button - nothing happened) This is a sad sad day for me. That player was absolutely perfect for me for all those years. Great sound and tough as nails - until now. Ouch! BTW, know of a good link to show me how to replace the battery? Thanks for any one replying, Ken

If it’s just the battery then you should be able to confirm this if it works fine while plugged in via a wall wart. If it’s not then you might be able to revive it with tcctool and then check the battery.

'wall wart'? WTF is that?
Anyway, tcctool won't help if it doesn't come to life, so I bought a battery anyway and put it in myself. My life was beautiful again! BUT, about 4 days later it wouldn't come to life again. I tried about a dozen times plugging it in to different sockets and whatever. About the 12th time it worked? i don't know - crazy as hell I tell ya. It's not that hard to put the battery in and it really can't be done incorrectly, so my guess is a bad battery for some reason. But it's working now so ....I'll wait. ONE thing though. I forgot how the D2 charging goes. Please tell me if a stock D2 while charging from the wall displays the charging screen the whole time or just at the beginning? Very important for me to know.

name given to a AC USB charger like this.
Quote:
and i9 screens will either display the battery icon if connect via wall wart or go dim after a few minutes if connected to pc. *Edited post as I just connected and checked.

I don't have the wall wart for my D2 anymore, but I just plugged it into the PC and the charging screen stayed on.
Here is a disassembly of the Cowon D2. If your handy with a soldering iron it should be easy to replace(if it is the battery). If not then you can send it to me and I can solder it for you, visit the link in my signature to see my classified ad. If we conclude the motherboard is dead then I am in need of a few D2 parts if you want to make a deal of sorts. Also, if you do disassemble it yourself, then be cautious of the screws, they are VERY easy to strip on the D2, and other Cowon devices..

There is an iaudiophile.net thread about replacing the D2 battery, including some sources of spares:
