Does anyone know of a way to make the headphone cable stay connected and not fall out so easily?

Sometimes it works to take it apart and see if you can push the pins in a little on the headphone jack. But it doesn't always work.

The headphone jacks on these things come from the factory extremely tight. In fact, a lot of new owners think they have a defective one because of just this when in fact their plug isn't inserted all the way in. It's rare that one would have a loose jack.

You are correct when you say they come "factory tight," but he didn't say how old his Clip+ is or how it's been taken care of, which can make a difference. I have seen and read about sansa's having their HP jack get loose, so I don't see this as rare. Although if one takes care inserting and taking out their HPs the jack can last a long time. Of all the one's I have owned, one of my Clip V1s HP jack is loose but it still works. On the e200 series there were many HP jacks that came un-soldered off the board, so the fix was to open it up and re-solder.

I am leaning toward that the cable isn't being plugged in all the way. When this is unknown it can go on for a long time without realizing it.

I wasn't saying his is or isn't, if I was it would only be a guess. All I was saying is that it's not rare that the HP jack goes loose on some players, IMO mainly from abuse but I recall reading a lot of complaints about it. While they were mainly on the e200 series, I have also seen them about the Clip.

Again, are you sure that you have your phone plug pushed in all the way? With a new player, it can feel as if you might be damaging the player at first, the first time, until the jack gets opened up a bit.

this may or may not help. a little glue gun between the headphone jack and the case. you can insert the headphone while pressing down on the jack before gluing to see if it makes a difference.
