I am considering buying a used pair of Polk Audio bookshelf speakers. They have 5 way binding post connections, and I was wondering if I would be able to use them with a TV or DVD player without having to buy any extra sort of amplifier.
I understand that if I would like to use them with my laptop though that I would need to buy an amplifier. Can anyone point me to one for someone shopping on a budget?

I've they aren't powered, you'll need an amp for any line level source (computer/tv/dvd/etc).

If you need an amp with your laptop then you will need one with your TV as well. Unless you mean that you will need a 5.1 sound card for your laptop.
And as kp-j3 said, if you provide us with the model number of the speakers then it will be much easier and more effective to provide you with correct answers.
