Rockbox works great on my Clip+, I don't have a Clip. With Rockbox on the Clip+ I believe you can record to the microSD card.

FM-recording
Unusable due to the signal getting weaker and there is the constant background-noise which is getting you crazy...."tick tick tick tick.." |

Hi there, The Clip+ FM radio clicks continually on tuned stations unless I click the back button. Once the back button is pressed the clicking goes away. I used the automatic installer to install rockbox. Thanks

Hi again, Feature suggestions: Since Li-on batteries lose 25% of capacity per year at room temp when charged between 60-100% and only lose 2% below 60% charge : to be able to set a maximum charge at which the device stops charging. This would be especially great for clip+ as it has such limited capacity in the first place. I only listen to about an hour of music a day at the most so this would be especially useful to me. Remembering to pull the device out of the laptop is awfully hit and miss. thanks

In theory, we could do this in rockbox. The charge controller allows us to set the max. voltage (between 3.9V and 4.25V IIRC in steps of 50 mV). Currently, we use 4.2V just like the original firmware.
Setting the max voltage to (say) 4.00V would correspond to about 60-70 % charge. |

It's always nice to see more useful features added. I usually just let a player drain to about 40% when I know I'm going to store them for a while. And 60% charge would be enough for a average commuting day for me even on a Clip+. I'd just have to disable it if I knew I wanted a full charge. Some Sonys have a Battery Care setting that only allows charging to 90% to avoid the possible damage from always charging to 100%.
The flip side though is you just know that someone is going to activate this unknowingly or even consciously then forget. The result? "Battery life on my Rockboxed player sucks! I only get half of the OF!"

Can't they do anything about the static noise when changing tracks, play/pause tracks and when the player turns off?
I can't live with that! |

No sense in bumping open this old thread with your noise issue. It's highly unlikely there will ever be any more Clip+ firmware updates.
Most likely it can't be fixed with a firmware update in any case. See my reply to your first post on this here.
