Default Verizon gets in the sharing mood, family data plans go live

Today is June 28, so if you’re a Verizon customer eagerly awaiting the company’s family data plans, your wait is finally over. Verizon’s “Share Everything” plan has officially gone live, allowing you to split your monthly data allotment amongst up to ten devices while enjoying unlimited minutes and messaging.

This would be fantastic, if it weren’t for the plan’s terrible pricing structure. The monthly account access fees are reasonable for a collection of up to ten devices with unlimited minutes and messaging, but the monthly line access fee is what kills it. Rather than charge a small amount for each additional device added to your plan – adding devices for free probably wouldn’t be reasonable from a business perspective – Verizon is charging customers $10 for every tablet, $20 for hotspots, $30 for dumb phones, and a whopping $40 for each smartphone on your Share Everything pan, per month.

Does this pricing sound reasonable? Do you plan on signing up for the Share Everything plan?

Microsoft Xbox MVP. Long live Zune!
