The Sony Xperia ion has finally received a firm release date and pricing information. The device is scheduled to be available in AT&T Wireless retail stores and online on June 24 for $99.99 with a standard two-year contract.
The big black handset features a 4.6-inch screen running at a resolution of 1280 x 720, along with a larger-than-average 12MP camera. 16GB of internal memory (expandable by up to 32GB via microSD), 1GB of RAM, and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor keep the handset running. Strangely, Sony hasn’t specified which version of Android comes on the Xperia ion. The Verge notes that it looked like Android 2.3.7 “Gingerbread” back at CES, but would Sony actually release a Gingerbread handset now that everything and its brother is running Ice Cream Sandwich?
Would you buy a brand new smartphone that was still running Gingerbread?
