The writer on the article fits into the mold of most ABI members, who never fully embraced the iPod. Chris Jenkins should be an ABI member.

Why is everyone enslaved by Apple's iPod? Through its combination of stylish design and smart marketing, it seems to have convinced the vast majority of people that it's the only MP3 player worth considering. I've never been convinced – mainly because I don't want to be tied into the way Apple's iTunes music market does things.

I've had my Touch for over a year now, and I had a Shuffle for a while too.....and in all that time I've never bought any music from iTunes. I guess I am one of the enlightened minority.

The date that the Zip came out is fairly meaningless. The Clip Zip isn't revolutionary by any means. It's just the Clip+ in a different package. And preceded by the Fuze and how many others?

The date is meaningful as to the fact that the review came out 9 months after the fact, my original point.

And you're right, the Clip Zip isn't revolutionary, just as the Clip+ isn't. But, IMHO, each offers advantages over its predecessor and they are far from the same in a different package. Especially to those who want folder view or a microSD card slot (with the Clip+) or album art, a clock, exercise features, and (kinda) aac compatibility (with the Clip Zip).

Story time: The only time I have bought music off iTunes was with the release of Death in Vegas' album 'Trans-Love Energies.' i normally use emusic or amazon, who both happened to carry it as well, but the funny thing is out of all the online digital music retailers I could find that carried the album, only iTunes had the 10 extra tracks from the deluxe edition (amazon has it now, too). I wanted to do right by one of my fave artists, so I got it off iTunes. Interesting that they were the only digital retailer w/the extra tracks that day…

These days my most used player is the 2GB original Clip that lives in our car.

When I am out and about, I use the Zip, but lately I'm either always home or at work, so the SGP 5.0 and Touch are the ones getting used. Of course, when my A867 arrives in a couple days, that's sure to see some use.
