Logitech Z5300 with TV

Guys, a technical question.

I have a Logitech z5300 THX Certified 5.1 sound system. I recently got JVC 42" TV. I wonder how i can connect the sound system to TV.

The output for sound system is 3.5mm connector, while TV has following
1 x Audio line-in, 1 x Digital audio output (optical), 1 x Audio line-out (Mini-phone 3.5 mm) and optical out.

Is there any adapter or something that can be used to get them working?

Why an adapter? You said the audio-out of the TV is 3.5mm, same as the input of the speakers - it should simply work with a 3.5mm cable.

He could be referring to headphone out but that should work as I have mine temporarily set up via headphone out till I buy a optical connect soundbar.

The audio out 3.5 mm refers to PC connection. If i connect sound system to that there is no sound. I already tried this. I put 3.5mm cable one end to speaker and one end in this audio out. Then i chose PC Speakers in menu of TV hoping the system will work but it didn't. I tried other options too but no good.

I was just wondering how to get 3.5mm cable to connect to TV through components. It would have been easy to connect a 3.5mm cable right. But alas its not so.

I thought may be an adapter or something is required to convert or to make the system work. I am not concerned about headphone yet as i don't plan to use it for now.

not every tv has an audio out, but most new ones seem to have toslink. really though we are all guessing until you can post the exact model of your TV or better yet a link to the manual...since the answer is undoubtedly in there.

your speakers will take 2.5mm stereo, toslink, an I think old school coax optical. I had a set and just did optical. worked well.

Its a 42" LCD. I am searching for manual online. But can't find it. I will go home and click the back-side panel so you can idea of what are the options.

You use the rightmost pair of RCA outputs to connect the TV to your speakers. The ones below the optical output. So you probably need a RCA-to-3.5mm cable.

glad I looked up the z5300 before this response because I was going to say you can use the optical also. That's not true if you have the 5300. The OP says you have the THX certified 5300...the 5500 was the THX certified set and had optical inputs. the 5300 has THX capabilities but isn't officially certified so I am not entirely clear which model you have. So in summary...5300, RCAs that DFKT said. If you have the 5500 use the optical.

It says THX on the woofer and it says z-5300. so i guess it is capable and not certified. i was under wrong impression i guess.

i will try to get the RCA-3.5mm thing and see if it is good enough.

That is what i was wondering. Won't it be other way around. I need to find a longer wire since distance is more between the woofer and TV.

I have another question DFKT. There is a RCA output of audio just below VGA. It says audio L&R. What is that for?

Also, there are three 3.5 mm outputs on z5300. It says Front, Rear and Center. Currently, 3.5mm cable is connected to Front and i use the other end in laptop or mp3 player. I get output from all 5 speakers, but once i move to TV, what to do about other two?

that is an input, not an output. It is to take audio from a source into the TV. You can see from the little box around it that the TV intends for it to be used in relation to the HDMI sources but most TVs let you manually assign if you need to. You only have 2 output options and they are labeled as such on the far right. Everything else is input

You are feeding it a stereo signal and the THX feature is converting it to a simulated 5.1 sound. It will do this for any source you plug in there. It should behave exactly the same as it is now. Your TV does not have analog surround outputs, which is what the 3 separate plugs are for.

The item I linked to is an adapter, not a cable, so you need to pair it with a standard RCA cable to the TV. I prefer adapters because I can vary the length of the cable with the more commonly available standard cables instead of having to buy a whole new 3.5/rca cable if I need more or less length. It makes it a more versatile device. usually you see them look like this one but I dont like the load that kind of adapter puts on the jack so I prefer the one I linked above.


Reventon, the cable you ordered will work just fine as well.
