Beautiful Sin - The Unexpected 2006



Just picked this up, missed it when it came out. I really liked this. Great female vocals (although slightly accented), definitely will seek out more stuff with her on it. Sounds kind of like the Triosphere singer, more rocker than operatic/gothy metal. Helloween, Gamma Ray, Masterplan, Pagan's Mind members.

Chickenfoot - III - 2011




Nothing really stands out on this. Sammy's Sammy, and the Micheal Anthony vocals are great, but it seems like Satriani is playing on 1/4 speed/intensity, and the alright, alright * 100 is pretty bad.

Kind of reminds me of why the first Chickenfoot cd was only listened to a couple of times. The other thing with both being the ridiculous packaging. Paper sleeves suck. This one has 3-D glasses and a card for each member, but of course no lyrics, and no jewel case, although one of the other editions may have it.

I think DLR & EVH latest beats this, although that's not saying much on either side.

Halestorm - The Strange Case Of - 2012 (Deluxe Edition)



Not liking this much at all. I've loved these guys since their EP and while there were some overly sugary songs on the last one, this one seems to be intent on having a country crossover. There's some of Lizzy Hale's aggressiveness sprinkled in here, but it isn't much. This is approaching the Disney/Nickelodeon level of "rawk".

Lullacry - Where Angels Fear - 2012



It's been 6 years since Vol. 4, and the result is lower, slower, mellower(?) in general. Not a necessarily a bad thing, still a good album, just at a more relaxed pace. Where they'd previously explode into a chorus, they kind of slide into it. There's even an all acoustic song, and a duet with male vocals (singing, not growling). Hope it's not another 6 years.

Crucified Barbara - Til Death Do Us Party - 2009



Newly Acquired. This is an unapologetically HARD album. There's only a couple of moments slowing down (including a duet with Mats Leven, producer), but the rest is a relentless pounding. Hopefully, it's almost time for album #3.
