Using acidrip, I converted my movies to .avi and they worked fine on the stock ROM for me.

Thanks! I found this "tutorial". Can you do this with a W7-64 PC? Or do you need a special video card?

Freemake Video Converter claims to do it, but I have only used it to do the reverse (turn avi's into DVD's) my choice of programs for ripping or copying DVD's is the latest release of DVDFab, as long as it is kept up to date it can crack virtually all encryption used by the DVD manufacturers.

I dual boot, but I don't know many good programs for Windows,. I heard Handbrake could work, but I haven't tried. You could try to install Ubuntu, dual-boot and use acidrip, or try using a virtual machine.

For decrypting, I use the "libdvdcss2" package, unscrambles many DVDs. Some weren't decrypted, and they bug out the program, but there probably will be a package for that sometime in the future, as Linux usually get support for pretty much anything someday.

All .avi files run on my Galaxy Player with the stock 2.3.5 ROM, but I think I improperly ripped some as I can't skip in a few, but others I ripped can. But if you properly do it, I'm sure they should work fine.

Are your DVDs already ripped in DVD format?

Mine are and I play my DVD movie back up files (VIDEO_TS, VIDEO_TS.INFO, VOB) without conversion.

I use Daroon Player ( http://en.daroonsoft.com/ ) and it works flawlessly with ripped DVD files.

Fair Use Wizard is very good freeware for this purpose. A lot of options and parameters to sort thru. After some playing around, you'll see what works and what doesn't matter. Makes very, very good avi files. Highest quality can take several hours to rip...2 pass operation. So as the screen dialog box says..."maybe you should go and do something else for a while".

Lower quality of course takes less time, but that "artifiacting" in low-light scenes and fast-motion scenes really bugs me.
