Speakers recommendation for my Cowon J3?

Im planning to buy a set of speakers for my Cowon J3. I went to the speaker local stores and I find the Altec Lansing Expressionist™ Ultra - MX6021 meeting my bass needs:

However the thing is, its not portable enough, cause I don't have a permanent home, cause I'm currently renting an apartment, and if I'm really tired from classes/work I'd just stay at my school's dormitory as my apartment takes a while to get to. So with that, I don't think the Altec Lansing Expressionist is worth getting.

I was reading at most threads in this Speaker section. I saw Walkgood recommend his JVC Kaboom to someone, is it good? Does it have a heavy bass? I need basshead speakers with good clarity.

Not sure I'd call the Kaboom basshead speakers but the quality of bass and depth for a portable boom box are very nice. I don't feel the treble fully extends but the overall midrange and upper mids cover very good for it and they do seem very clear to my ears. Aside from me the only other one here that I can remember listening to it is dfkt, so I'll look forward to hearing his take on the kaboom

Edit: BTW the build quality is excellent on it, but I haven't dropped it ever Also you do have a dedicated bass adjustment knob from 1 to 6

Okay cool, I'd like to hear dfkt's thoughts on the kaboom too. And I don't own an iphone/ipod, don't you think getting the kaboom will be a waste, as the iphone dock will be useless. And I heard there are a lot of kaboom series and the older series are have more quantity of bass. Is it true? Which one do recommend?

Yes there are a lot of series and you can still get them without the ipod dock, mine doesn't have one. The only thing I don't care for on it is the tape deck, if they made the one I have without the tape deck, that's the way I'd go ... http://support.jvc.com/consumer/prod...7&archive=true

Edit: I still have a lot of tapes, just haven't used them in years and never even tried the deck out on my kaboom but I can tell you the cd player works nice too

Edit 2: BTW a friend had the Milwaukee 2790 and it's very nice, maybe not as deep bass as the kaboom but certainly cheaper, with a little louder overall sound and has a weather sealed auxiliary compartment for your MP3 player. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...d_i=B002MUAGL4

The Milwaukee seems pretty nice with the auxiliary compartment for cowon. But the fact that it doesn't have the bass of the kaboom is pretty disappointing imo. And I can't seem to locate a local store in Taiwan that sells Kaboom or Milwaukee otherwise I couldve tried them out, and amazon doesnt ship to Taiwan. =(

So I'm gonna trust the opinions/recommendations of the audiophiles here, since I can't try any of them here in my country.

I've got the same for JVC, as for Audio-Technica its pretty famous here, cause most Taiwanese think that its the "BEST" brand in earphones besides Monster Beats. But its just they don't know that Audio-Technica's name in English.

P.S.: Funny thing is that you're a Taiwanese that moved out of Taiwan to Canada, I'm a Canadian that moved to Taiwan. =.=

I've got a kaboom that I was going to use in the garage. It's fantastic when the power's out, as long as you have a cache of batteries, but now I'm using an old alpine head unit with some cheap home speakers down there.

I've always liked/used JVC's gigantic boom boxes, but prefer the more traditional look with the separable speakers. That seems impossible to find these days.
