Im planning to buy a set of speakers for my Cowon J3. I went to the speaker local stores and I find the Altec Lansing Expressionist™ Ultra - MX6021 meeting my bass needs:
http://www.alteclansing.com/ae/us/co...mputerspeakers However the thing is, its not portable enough, cause I don't have a permanent home, cause I'm currently renting an apartment, and if I'm really tired from classes/work I'd just stay at my school's dormitory as my apartment takes a while to get to. So with that, I don't think the Altec Lansing Expressionist is worth getting. I was reading at most threads in this Speaker section. I saw Walkgood recommend his JVC Kaboom to someone, is it good? Does it have a heavy bass? I need basshead speakers with good clarity. Thanks Tim

Edit: I still have a lot of tapes, just haven't used them in years and never even tried the deck out on my kaboom but I can tell you the cd player works nice too ![]() Edit 2: BTW a friend had the Milwaukee 2790 and it's very nice, maybe not as deep bass as the kaboom but certainly cheaper, with a little louder overall sound and has a weather sealed auxiliary compartment for your MP3 player. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...d_i=B002MUAGL4

So I'm gonna trust the opinions/recommendations of the audiophiles here, since I can't try any of them here in my country. Tim

I thought the FoxL was supposed to be the state of the art in boombox SQ???
>>>>>>> http://theaudiocritic.com/plog/index...Id=41&blogId=1 It’s the size of a Baby Ruth candy bar, maybe just a little bit thicker. It’s stereo. It’s self-powered—there are amplifiers in it. It’s a full-range high-fidelity loudspeaker system, for crying out loud! Who would want a loudspeaker that small, designed to be listened to at a distance of 20 inches or so? Let’s go to the source, designer Dr. Godehard Guenther, physicist and former NASA engineer: “Music is a big part of my life, yet so is travel. There weren’t any really small hi-fi-quality portable loudspeakers—so, utilizing a number of our patented and proprietary technologies, I developed one myself. A true labor of love, I named it after Fox, my first grandson.” So it’s for travelers, frequent fliers, joggers, hikers, bicyclists, anyone on the move who doesn’t like those earbuds in his ears (and I can’t blame them). Yes, it will play louder when plugged into the wall than in its portable mode, but I’m getting ahead of myself. >>>>> The very demanding critic seems to consider it *borderline* hifi, which is a lot from a speaker of that size. |

At that price, there's better full size options IMHO, the kaboom for one

I've got a kaboom that I was going to use in the garage. It's fantastic when the power's out, as long as you have a cache of batteries, but now I'm using an old alpine head unit with some cheap home speakers down there.
I've always liked/used JVC's gigantic boom boxes, but prefer the more traditional look with the separable speakers. That seems impossible to find these days.

I have been using iMainGo X portable speakers. I work with them and love their products. They are super portable, have great sound/quality, and work with many devices - and not too much $$$. You can check them out on Amazon here: http://amzn.to/ritvtj
Good luck! |
