i7 Broken screen

My i7 screen just broke . All I can see is a weird black "tree leaf". Any information on spare parts? screen model? ... I'd like to salvage it. It sounds great!

Sorry to hear the bad news but the player has been discontinued and Cowon will not sell parts for any of their players. Not sure if they’d fix it if you sent it in and I’ve heard it’s around $100.00 with shipping and all. Only thing you can do is look for a bricked or broken player with a good screen on ebay and I’ve yet to see a tutorial on it’s screen replacement. Good luck and let us hear back the outcome …

Thanks for your reply. At present no luck in ebay; could not find any on sale. If I opened it up do you think I could identify the name and model of the screen?

I'd check the online shots first or the rockbox data sheet to see if it's there. I've read about some who have identified it but still can not get the part.

Sorry WalkGood, I should have looked it up before asking. I googled and found out what Rockbox is. I saw a probable model for the LCD screen in the i7. I'll see if its not to expensive to get it an give a try. Thanks again and sorry for my inexperience in these matters.

Glad you found it, for others that may find this thread I mean here, where they state the screen is 160x128 TFT LCD at a claimed 18bit depth which appears to be the Renesas HD66789R.

Seeing how he never followed up here since July 2011, chances are high that he was unable to find the screen. Buying parts for discontinued players is next to impossible, the best way is to buy a used player that might have something else wrong with it and salvage the parts.
