Hi all,
First time poster I recently bought a clip Zip after owning the clip and the clip+. Love the line of players but I'm running into a problem in the sense that my Zip won't recognize ANY music I put on the SD card. I have a KOMPUTERBAY class 10 16 gig card and the card works perfectly fine in my laptop, my Galaxy S2, but on the zip, nada, I can't even format it from the zip, it says that it was unable to complete the format, I tried formatting the card in Windows and on the phone but the clip zip still won't budge... I heard something about rockbox but I tried installing it and it won't recognize the firmware .bin of my clip zip... I set my USB to MSC but still no dice :-( Any help would be greatly appreciated, if it makes a difference, I have the 4GB version black. Will |

First, make sure you have the latest firmware installed--the issue with microSD cards has been improved over time.
Second, you might try reformatting the card with the SD Association's Formatter utility--this sometimes can help. https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/ |

I've tried both and still no dice :-( I'm really confused as my old Clip+ never gave me such problems...

Have you another microSD card that you can test the reader out with? Steve |

It can be frustrating with the Clip Zip indeed--it definitely is "more delicate" microSD card-wise than the earlier Clips. I had to reformat my SD card and reapply the latest firmware--and a few times, if I recall correctly--before it started behaving nicely.

I've had no problems with microSD cards in my Clip Zip. On firmware 01.01.15 I played around with swapping 2 cards between another player and the Zip (while investigating playlists). I've upgraded the Zip to 01.01.18, and still no probs with the card in my Zip.
For the record, it's a Patriot 4GB Class 4 card in my Zip now. Steve |

Hi all,
I ended up being able to install Rockbox manually as directed on this awesome forum and now my SD cards are recognized (Thank you Lord!), using the stock Sansa firmware (even the latest version) still produced no results. Thanks again for everyone's help! |

Congrats and good to hear. I've read that some type of cards don't work on the OF but couldn't help as I don't use it either
