Amp is short for amplifier and when they say the Clip has a nice/good little amp they just mean that the frequency response is fairly flat, low noise level, good dynamic range, doesn't produce hissing sound with some sensitive IEMs, etc, etc …

Basically, it means that the thing actually sending the noise to your headphones is good at recreating sound.

I had the original sansa clip and it had a fairly decent little amp, i loved it! I think the company modo is "Little player, Big sound" or something to that effect. If your on a budget i recommend a sansa anyday!
